The floodplains of the Simalaha Community Conservancy are flooded for six months every year. And with this rush of water comes the beautiful bloom of the water lilies. It makes a wonderful backdrop to the Sable Team’s usual patrol activities. Gerald Mutondo, Careen Nyambe and Mutinta Malumo are part of the Sable Team in Simalaha, tasked with keeping a close eye on animals living in the sanctuary. They look out for snakes, keep count of the number of animals they spot and investigate any signs of stress in wildlife.
