João is interviewed by Peace Parks Communications Coordinator, Lésa van Rooyen, who has also attended several translocations and speaks movingly about the experience. ‘It is really something, you know, to see these incredible, huge creatures being lifted like babies, and the crew talking to them and coaxing them like they are their children. I will never forget the sounds the elephant made to reassure each other. I didn’t sleep throughout the whole translocation, not a wink in nearly three days, it is so intense,’ says Lésa. ‘But I’d do it all over again in a heart-beat. It is a privilege to have experienced it.’
