This week, PeaceParks.TV joins the second Herding for Health Indaba, this time held in Hoedspruit, South Africa, where experts and communities gathered to tackle key issues in livestock management across Africa.

The Herding for Health programme – a partnership between Conservation International and Peace Parks Foundation – works with communities to promote sustainable livestock and land management. The initiative enhances livelihoods and incomes, preserves ecosystems, and fosters peaceful coexistence between people and wildlife.

During the gathering, experts shared insights while attendees explored innovative methods to improve rangeland management across the continent.

Zvikomborero Tangawamira, Herding for Health Senior Programme Manager, emphasised the importance of the Indaba as a platform for discussions on livestock management through the lenses of climate change, biodiversity and human development.

Reflecting on the Indaba’s impact, Zvi said: “People are taking away not only new knowledge but connections, which are important because going forward, we need to have partners that enable us to scale at the rate at which we need to, to support communities that are seeing the impact of climate change more broadly.”

Originally launched in South Africa, Herding for Health has now expanded to seven countries across east and southern Africa.
