Gordon is on the road north to Zambia when he stops to see these African savannah elephant, a species now listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Africa’s elephant play a major role in revitalising ecosystems and economies and so it is crucial to protect them. Clearly, being so near to roads is not ideal and highlights why the Peace Parks Foundation’s work is so necessary. By creating safe spaces for the elephant to live and corridors so they can travel without the danger of crossing roads, they can thrive unperturbed by human development, and feel safe and protected.
