Maputo National Park has fast become one of Mozambique’s most outstanding national parks, with its thriving array of both terrestrial and aquatic wildlife. It offers varying habitats that are enough to make any outdoor lover’s eyes pop and a selection of beautiful beachside accommodation that caters for lazing in luxury, avid adventurers and the newest addition, Membene Lodge, which offers something special in between.
Getting this conservation area to where it is today has involved many twists and turns, but together with Mozambique’s National Administration for Conservation Areas (ANAC), Peace Parks Foundation, and partners have been working incredibly hard behind-the-scenes.
Hard Work Pays Off
In recognition of the hard work that has gone into transforming Maputo National Park into the thriving wildlife sanctuary that we see today, Peace Parks Maputo HQ staff are given a sneak peek of the new Membene Lodge.
Many of these staff members would have worked on this project, and with its doors due to open in early 2023, they finally get a glimpse of what guests can expect when staying here…and let’s just say that it’s nothing short of magical!
Membene Lodge
This open-planned and modern lodge is hidden away in the coastal dune forest and has been constructed to preserve and incorporate the unique natural environment that it sits in. It’s a 72-bed lodge comprising eight forest units, dune chalets, fully catered chalets, and a beach-side restaurant that overlooks the untouched beach below.
Nature was front of mind when the lodge was designed and constructed, and great care was taken not to harm the environment. During its construction, not a single tree was cut down.
The lodge will also greatly benefit the local communities surrounding the park as it will employ 24 permanent staff members offering long-term employment opportunities and helping to promote sustainable and inclusive economic growth in the area.
