We are thrilled to introduce you to three of the SA College for Tourism’s brightest new intakes who are about to embark on their very own life-changing journey. Meet Thandokazi, Jubilate and Boitumelo who have all been selected to study hospitality through the SA College for Tourism, an opportunity that could forever alter these young women’s lives.
The SA College for Tourism provides accredited hospitality training to more than 90 students every year, most of whom are young women from impoverished communities in southern Africa. A large focus of the hospitality training lies within the culinary department, where students will have to learn how to handle the heat that comes with being a chef. Here, they are taught valuable cooking skills that result in a wide selection of mouth-watering dishes.
The course goes a lot further than just the culinary art and professional cookery component, with a focus placed on other skills development courses such as accommodation services and housekeeping, food and beverage services, as well as front of house or reception services. All the while, valuable life skills such as leadership and teamwork are being taught.
Operating under the auspices of Peace Parks Foundation, the SA College for Tourism is a non-profit organisation established in 2001. It provides impoverished men and women with an opportunity to better their future by teaching new skills most needed within the tourism sector. The skills learnt through the organisation’s hospitality course, Tracker Academy and the Herding Academy equip individuals with the knowledge to obtain meaningful employment at lodges, reserves and other nature-based or eco-tourism businesses.
