Remember those fingerlings – baby fish – that were brought to Maputo Special Reserve a while ago (Fish Go Overland)? They are part of a Peace Parks Foundation drive to assist local communities that live adjacent to protected areas by creating alternative livelihoods. The aim is to take the pressure off communities’ reliance on natural resources, helping them to develop sustainable ways of making a living. The Minister for Fisheries is paying a visit to find out about this new project that will farm mussels and tilapia as a food source, therefore leaving the fish in the rivers and ocean to thrive.
