Helps reduce deforestation

A brilliant program called REDD+ encourages communities to protect the land – and the trees and soil in it – which in turn helps to retain carbon and forests in the landscape. This builds up carbon credits which communities can sell on to carbon users, bringing much-needed funding back into the communities. Funds are used for forest protection activities and provide alternative livelihood opportunities to communities.
