Herman is on the road with Gordon to check out some of the tech equipment in use in Hluhluwe–iMfolozi Park in KwaZulu Natal. Phumlani shows Gordon one of the camera traps that is hooked up to a battery pack on the tree. A sensor will send information from the camera trap back to the long-range wide area network (LoRaWAN) device (see more about these on Day 29), monitoring the camera location, battery life and also what it’s been looking at. All very useful in trying to find out what is moving around in the bush.
